Toronto eBird High Count??? Very impressive movement, not sure what exactly combined for so many huge flocks to be flying over the area, but definitely one of my most memorable Toronto lakewatches (numbers even bigger than mine were recorded in Halton Co not even a week ago!). The first few notable flocks came over when I was watching the Kingbird: approx 90, then approx 70, then when I decided I should go take a look at the lake, a huge flock of 150+ came over, bumping my count up to 310 before I even started lakewatching... all following the same flightline, off the lake and up through the city (maybe over the Humber?) Since there were so many, I figured I'd only count the birds going East (which was the huge majority, there were a couple smaller flocks of 15-25 that circled and were even heading West, but I won't count those) to avoid double counting, and I recorded all the flock sizes and timestamped them in my notes app: 19:23 - 27 WWSC 19:28 - 34 WWSC 19:31 - 93 WWSC 19:34 - 55 WWSC 19:34 - 146 WWSC 19:41 - 35 WWSC 19:51 - 21 WWSC 19:57 - 102 WWSC 20:00 - 22 WWSC 20:02 - 84 WWSC 20:05 - 4 WWSC 20:07 - 12 WWSC 20:09 - 36 WWSC 20:19 - 28 WWSC 20:22 - 23 WWSC 20:24 - 6 WWSC 20:29 - 4 WWSC 20:33 - 61 WWSC 20:36 - 72 WWSC 20:44 - 43 WWSC 20:47 - 4 WWSC There were also approx 40 scoters on the water very far offshore which I didn't consider in my count since I had no accurate way of being sure where they came from, or if I'd seen them, etc. I observed two main flight lines: a) along the lakeshore, W to E b) more of a NE/ENE line, where the flocks went up through the city I obviously followed the flocks out of eyesight so that I was positive I was not double counting anything.
