NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 11. Bulk reel: 204. a) The first sound in the general area was a "wing whirr" down the hill from me @~ 5:55AM. The next sound was the present recording, from well up the hillside above me and different place from either Cut 9 or 10 [See notes LNS 63686 and 63687]. It starts with a "scream" and goes into single-note repeated clear calls. Quality: 2. Level: +5. After a while these rise in "key" and approach "screams." It isn't quite clear if these come from a second bird or if the first changes position but in any case a second bird is obviously present and often we hear "screams" , then "single-note" clear repeated calls. No further "wing-whirrs" were heard. [The notes of part b) of this recording have two notations associated. PS wrote "Eliminate or transfer to Cebus." pointing to the note for Part b). PS also wrote this: These are actually screams of Cebus nigrivittatus and the sounds here recorded are very likely of that monkey too." This sentence refers to the ""crows" of granti". mf] b) I then played back repeatedly the field tape of the "crows" of granti. After a while I began to hear (and record) sounds that I can consider only as weak attempts at "crowing.".
