Pacific Loon with the characteristic gray back of neck, black chinstrap, and contrasting demarcation between light and dark on neck. Frosty tipped feathers on the back suggest an immature bird.

Very unexpected! Immature bird with a daintier bill, dark back with frosty tipped feathers, gray on back of neck, and distinct chin strap. Border between black and white on the neck is a straight line, lacking the "spur" on the neck of a common loon. Viewed from the road just north of the cooling ponds on the southeast side of the reservoir. State bird #330!
