Poznámky
Western Tanager on a cold winter day in January. She seems more aggressive than other songbirds but does mingle with some of them.
Podrobnosti k pozorování
Visiting birdfeeder every day since January 26,2025. Appears to be a female. Head, body are olive yellow, chest yellowish, ring around eye, orange beak, black wings with 2 bars - one bar yellowish the next bar is white, tail is black. Its a bit smaller than a robin (seems to have arrived with a robin flock). It appeared aggressive with the robins, chasing them from food source. Unusual to see in midcoast Maine during winter. Bird has been seen with other birds feeding. Seems to like the bird seed and mealy worms. An orange is also available but she doesn't seem to want it. Spends anywhere from 5-10 minutes feeding, leaves and returns throughout the day. Feeder is outside our kitchen window so getting plenty of good photographs. Have been trying to get a sound recording, but the temperature here is 0-30 degrees. Cold does not seem to bother her (other than fluffing up feathers)
