Podrobnosti k pozorování
First reported at 9.15 that morning. Approached from Winchelsea beach side toward Harbour Farm, approximately halfway between car park and Mary Stanford Lifeboat House. Bird had earlier been seen along fence line parallel to beach path. Identified at 15:23 when I flushed it inadvertently from hawthorn alongside NW-SE path connecting The Ridge and the beach path. Striking adult male individual with distinct markings. Stayed prominent atop a small bush further north along the path for 5 minutes, before flying east into sheep field and dipping behind reeds and long grasses. Several other observers arrived at this point for clear views of the bird. Showed again 5 minutes later, perching on a smaller bush between reeds and being mobbed by linnets and a reed bunting. A few minutes thereafter it took up into a hawthorn a couple of metres away, and used it as a platform for launching a few short hunting sorties. Bird remained visible well for ~8 observers. The bird was a little skittish, so only able to obtain distant photographs.
