Sweet bird for Yakima!! Heard mew calling while I was getting my kayak into the water (from Grant co), looked up and spotted three distant gulls, at least two of which had black heads, pinkish gray back, and white primary tongues. Very poor, distant photos that show the important field marks. Started in Grant and flew far out over the river into Yakima. Only got good looks and photos of two, the third I suspect was also a frgu but am not 100% certain. Right place at the right time! First record for Yakima since 2011, which happened to be my rarity “spark bird,” when Andy pointed out three circling Franklin’s Gulls to a 13 year old me on the migratory bird day tractor ride through the Toppenish NWR. Only a couple of records for the county, and surprisingly a first record for Priest Rapids (on eBird at least). I imagine they must fly through in small numbers but don’t stop over. Update — photos seem to confirm that there were three, but want to look on a computer and I’m exhausted…
