Podrobnosti k pozorování
Singing and flying back and forth in the chamise dominated scrub 100 meters below the road, often following a line of large, exposed sandstone slabs in the vicinity of 33.8559675, -117.6891883. Singing off and on with some regularity from 10:30 until we left at noon. The singing bird and its presumed mate were too far to see well, but Identifiable photos were eventually obtained. Song was a series of snappy, rising and fallyng phrases; we also occasional heard high tinkling notes from unseen birds in the direction where we had seen BESPs. Dark gray head, fine white tick mark in loral area; short, dark, conical bill; thick black malar streak set off against white background, brown unmarked back contrasted slightly with darker upper surface of its tail; underparts whitish. Too distant to see finer details in wing panel or elsewhere. Tail cocked up at jaunty angle when briefly observed running over sandstone slab. Observed bill movement in conjunction with singing. Observed only at distance, we did not do any audio playback to entice it closer. We were confident that we observed only one singing bird and its presumed mate throughout our study.
