Podrobnosti k pozorování
Very unusual movement of small and large groups of migrating gulls moving along the coast and over the count site from south to north owing to unstable weather conditions in the region. Medium sized dainty gulls circling to gain height and slowly making their way to the north. They had relatively long slender wings and relatively small, dark and straight bills. At times mixing with Magnificent Frigatebirds, when their size and shape could be more closely observed. Separated from the similar Laughing Gulls by more refined appearance, less heavy structure, and small and straighter bill. Photos and videos were taken and confirm ID of the species by their characteristic head, wing and tail field marks. The groups were of birds of various ages and in non-breeding plumage. The groups were counted and appeared in this order: 27, 38, 30, 12, 24, 14, 108, 22, 10, 5, 2, 3, 7. I am familiar with this species.
