NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 63. 139 tape. Weather: Cloudy, fair. 1) The "alternate" song. This may be the primary song of this form. some sdays later I heard the "alternate song" up on slope at the 2k,500 m. camp, but I heard no "repeated test' song. This was at dawn. (Therefore this apparently reinforces idea that this may be the primary song.) I tried playback there that evening with no apparent result, but next morning I found a bird dea on road. It had apparently been hit by a car during night. It was smashed flat but still made up into a recognizable skin (= # [blank]). I had heard the bird sing this song 2x before up in the woods. I whistled an imitation one or 2x and then recorded this. Quality: 2. Level: +5. 2) Two "repeated-toot" (= one-figure succession) songs, something like those of G. brasilianum. I believe these came after playback of 1) but am not sure about the first, although the second almost surely came after playback of the first. Quality: 2. Level: +5. 3) Another "alternate song", definitely after playback. Then another "repeated test." Quality: 2. Level: +5. 4) Another "alternate song" (complete) after a few minutes delay, letting the recorder run with parabola pointed in direction of where I suspected the bird to be. Quality: 1-2. Level: +5. This bird then collected = male # [blank]. A copy of these recordings [2), 3), & 4)], filtered 400/4 kc [sic] is at end of tape used for Myrmornis project.
