NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 11. Bulk reel: 55 139 tape. Owls started singing ~ 10:30 PM and I began whistling imitation. Owls responded: 1) Two owls sing type B song. Quality: 2-3. Level: 0. 3.75 ips. Copied from original @ 7.5 & filt. 250/2.5 kHz. Focus changes to one directly overhead. Quality: 1-2. Level: 0. Then same bird apparently, now on a perch a little farther away, sings type A song. Quality: 2. Level: 0. Then after playback of that, the bird, a little closer, sings type A song. Quality: 1-2. Level: 0. This then continues with copy @ 7.5. Quality: 1-2. Level: 0. Then some time after playback of the last part, bird sings type B song. (The last two songs repeated filtered 200/6 kHz.) Quality: 1-2. Level: 0. 7.5 ips. Note: I heard three or four individuals in this area. The species seemed more active in this site than up at the 1800 m. site. 20/III/70 - No active song at 1500 m. in spite of clear sky and moon. One aroused by playback but did not react strongly. 21/III/70 - At 1400 m., no O. ingens but O. choliba sang.
