Podrobnosti k pozorování
Continuing bird, probably the same one I found at this location in November, but almost certainly continuing from my observation last weekend. In the same drainage as the Pacific Wren, closely associating with that bird. See my description for that bird for pin/location information. After my initial encounter of two unidentifiable Troglodytes wrens by the waterfall, I pursued them South and initiated some playback to attempt to get an ID on one or both. First, I was able to ID the Pacific, and once that bird disappeared into some grasses on the side of the drain, I initiated Winter Wren playback. From the opposite direction that the Pacific had come, a wren appeared out of the bushes a little further from the drain and sat conspicuously on top of some branches. It seemed more gray and cooler-toned overall, as well as lighter in shade than the Pacific Wren I had just observed, and it began to call, a rattled, fast-paced "tchimp" call, more Song Sparrow like than a PAWR and less chippy. The call this bird gave was similar to the rattle call that both species give, however it was more melodic and certainly had a Winter Wren tone to it, as opposed to just a rattle. Hearing both wrens within minutes of each other was a cool comparison experience for call notes. After about a minute of curiously moving closer to me and calling frequently, the bird flew across the drainage and disappeared into some Russian Olives. Audio and photos TBA.
