Podrobnosti k pozorování
I arrived at 11:25AM at bird blind #5 where I spent most of my time. 4 other birders had seen this bird around 11:00 in the Brazilian Pepper brush near the blind as it flew north about 50 yards to the far Pepper Bush near the Convention Center parking lot.. A few of us got a brief look at 11:58 AM when it popped up just high enough for a couple of us to see it while we were standing on the benches. (My poor Photo similar to Nick's clearly showed the smooth bill). From that point it was a long wait as the high northerly winds had the birds hunkered down. Having to catch a flight back home at 8PM, I had the rest of the day to stay put. The wind laid a little around 3:30PM, still blowing out of the north so I decided to walk over to the Convention Center parking lot near the main road. From this position I could clearly see the downwind side of the Pepper brush at the corner of the parking lot where we saw the bird earlier. At 3:57 PM it flew out and landed at the top of the Pepper brush just north of the bird blind #5. It then flew closer to blind #5. Quickly moving back to the blind, I was able to get up close photos with 3 other birders from about 4:15 to 4:45. My photos tell the rest of the story. The first photo is when we first saw the bird at 3:57PM. While others in the group saw and/or heard the groove billed Ani, I never saw it.
