Podrobnosti k pozorování
One Tropical Kingbird - at least 6th Ketchikan record. Brooke first spotted the bird across the street at the high school. The bird then flew into the tall cedar in our yard, then back and forth to the high school. It reacted aggresively to recordings, and I was able to obtain two recordings of its trilled call note (along with accompanying music provided by teenagers in the high school parking lot). In addition to the call, the bird was identified by its large size (about the size of a robin, but slightly more slender), olive back and wings (whitish edges to wing coverts and tertials), plain olive-brown tail with very slight fork, gray crown and darker gray through the eye contrasted with whitish throat, which contrasted with bright yellow underparts (slight olive suffusion at sides of chest). The bird had a long and very wide black bill. Ben Limle and I observed the bird later in the evening, not too long before sunset.
