Podrobnosti k pozorování
Seen and photographed at point of Long Beach Conservation Area. The duck was actively foraging at the tip of the conservation area beach in the shallow rock flats and resting on a large boulder. When it was flying, the large white wing bars and bright orange/pink feet were what initially caught my eye. When walking on the shoreline, its legs were longer than any Ontario duck. Further inspection in binoculars showed a pale head and red colouration to its mantle feathers. I walked from my cottage to the conservation area for a closer look. At close range I could see the black belly, pink bill and legs, large white wing bar, white eye ring. After it was spooked by some people walking in the water, it flew east towards Port Colborne. I followed it in binoculars. I lost track of it as it neared the eastern tip of Long Beach. In total, it was present for about one hour.
