Podrobnosti k pozorování
Found this morning by Allen Bryan. Thanks to tip from B. Taber bird was roosting on log on far side of river when I arrived (close to Chesterfield County line but apparently not quite over it) . It then moved to the Hopewell side of the river to look for handouts from fisherman and car-sitters where it ate several potato chips with LAGUs and RBGUs. Flew around the pier several times and bathed in the river briefly. Very tame and clearly used to being fed at this location. Locals hanging out at the pier noticed me looking at" their black gull" and started talking to me about it. I learned that it has been there very regularly for several moths with one man insisting he had been seeing it there since the week of June 21st. All reported it to be tame and often fed by fisherman and people sitting in their cars. The August bird photographed at the Jamestown ferry and added to iNaturalist may be this bird. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/91623432 1st year bird; all dark gray/black medium sized gull with a bicolored bill (dark tip, pink-orange base). Appeared to be in the middle of a tail feather molt. Many photos. (AB may have tail molt photos).
