Podrobnosti k pozorování
male photo'd; the photos show a violet (not turquoise-blue) rump that is the same color as the violet back [race nyassae here]. Anthony also advised it was the species present here, and pointed out the flight call, that recalled American Goldfinch's "potato-chip" call to us. Initially, I thought I heard one-two daily in Ruaha -- and maybe I did -- but later I removed some of those from my Ruaha checklists as it is possible other sunbirds give similar calls. We did not actually see violet-backed sunbirds daily. The new field guide (Stevenson & Fanshawe) do not show either Eastern VB nor Western VB as occurring in Ruaha NP, but the on-line Birds of the World by Cornell shows only Western here. eBird maps have claims of both species here, but I'm guessing that there are a lot of i.d. errors in TZ ebird maps
