Podrobnosti k pozorování
It was fairly straightforward on this occasion to identify both the sand plovers as they were seen in the same location. The Lesser Sand Plovers were relatively diminutive, slender, with a smaller head and a rounder crown. The bill was shorter, more slender and blunt. The bill length appeared to be less than the distance between the base of the bill to the rear of the eye in LSP vis-a-vis the GSP. The legs (tibia) appeared slightly shorter and a darker greenish grey in colour than the Greater's. The Tibio-tarsal ratio in the LSP was less than that in the GSP. The stance of the bird was generally more upright, compared to the GSP. After reviewing the images on the computer, the Tarsus: Bill Length ratio of the LSP was around 1.8-2.0 whereas that of the GSP was closer to 1.5-1.6. The calls of the two species were also slightly different.
