At the Fort Leaton visitor's center. Scratching around on the ground. Very skittish. Ran along the ground very quickly to find cover under bushes. Saw these quail as we checked in for entering Big Bend National Park. Birding was not the priority. We just happened to see them as we checked in. We heard other birds, but did not attempt to photograph or identify them. We had never seen this quail before so it caught our eye and we snapped a couple photos before heading into the park for our itinerary.
