(Rare): “Unreported”: digiscope photos of cont. bird found earlier today 11:43a by Aaron Beerman and mom Gloria, thank you! — new county bird for us. — took us a while to relocate it, because so many thousands of Cackling geese swirling, flocks flushing flying off, landing, taking off, over many areas of refuge, though primarily in general area of South Slough Pond, both sides of Coville Rd. — seen with Aaron and Gloria, Susan Kirkbride, Paul Sullivan, and then Pam Otley pulled up after geese had flown away. — Caleb noted structural differences from the other geese. “more different from the shape of a Cackling goose than I realized. Medium bill longer than Cackler; had more robust head with angle at back; neck thicker and more robust; breast stronger, breast big and stuck out.” Caleb’s Brant note: Mostly dark goose, slightly larger than minima Cacklers. Neck slightly longer and thicker, head longer and more sharply angled at back, Bill longer than minima. Head and neck all black except for distinctive white necklace at crease of throat. Body mostly dark, with contrasting white area on flank, turning sharply to blackish brown belly below. P.S. apology to Susan we are submitting this shared checklist so late! It’s Caleb’s Finals ... and we both get Overwhelmed by life often, especially me ... (a common trait/indicator of an HSP, — I have a theory it might be the best indicator of all of an HSP: uses the word “overwhelm”/“I’m overwhelmed!”) ... I have a backlog of ebird checklists to submit going back over a year ... ugh. Nice birding into you, Susan! Looking at Brant with you, was opposite of ugh. :-)
