Podrobnosti k pozorování
White gape line or tomia is seen well. The tomium (singular) is the sharp cutting edge of the beak of a bird. Thick-billed Murre is the largest extant Alcid in the sub-Arctic which can weigh up to 1.48 kg (3.3 lb), with a length of 0.48 m (1.6 ft). In flight, it has a thicker neck and shorter bill than Common Murre, which are less commonly seen here during the winter months than TBMU. This series of photos shows nicely the decurved Culmen. The legs are set way back on the body. Black back and white belly and totipalmate or fully webbed feet help this creature dive in the open ocean waters for krill, copepods or fish. It has been pointed out that this could be a sick bird.
