Poznámky
The original nocturnal recording was made over nearly a half hour, pausing and restarting the recorder. I then took a copy and cut 5 segments with interesting and unique call types heard while standing in an area of bush with predominantly tall pines andh other deciduous trees scattered throughout. It was in an area of bush that I always thought would be ideal as a stopover for migrating Saw-whet Owls, and this time, there was actually one there! Between each segment, I inserted 3 seconds of silence. Three are short, another two are longer. The segment where the owl is "wailing" seemed to be in response to a coyote that was barking and howling a short distance south of the bush - I could see the owl fluttering between pines in the fairly bright moonlight. In the other longer segment, a distant juvenile Great Horned Owl can also be heard calling. In the last short segment where a "clicking" type of call was made, I believe the bird may have seen the flashing LED light on my paused recorder a short time before, and decided to make a low level flyover just a few feet above my head when it made the "clicking" call as it passed over - the subsequent crackling sound was likely it passing through some nearby dry needle-less pine branches. One of my most memorable and unique birding experiences, listening to and occasionally seeing the bird in flight by only the light of the high in the sky more than half full moon!

Due to limited experience with this owl species, I wasn't entirely certain at first that the unusual high pitched calls were in fact a Saw-whet Owl, but the ID was later confirmed that the recorded calls were in fact Saw-whet Owl.
