Podrobnosti k pozorování
Noted this chaetura swift flying low over my neighborhood towards the beginning of my effort but thinking the bird would be gone and on its way I didn’t think much about it, until it started circling over my neighbors’ and I’s yards. I ran inside to grab my camera to document the bird and get an idea of wing shape and when I did, I was surprised to note the noticeable bulge to the inner primaries (CHSW wing-shape). In flight the bird appeared to have long wings and slower wings beats than VASW with more gliding (see video attached). I did not note much plumage-wise except the bird was overall dark with a noticeably pale throat contrasting with the rest of the plumage. I then spent the next 10 minutes trying to get as many pics as I could and using playback to get the bird to call. After it disappeared behind my neighbor’s trees it called for a couple seconds giving the typical “wet” twittering calls I am familiar with hearing from CHSW in the front-range and in the Southeast. I also have experience with many vocalizing VASW from the PNW. The bird circle my neighborhood for close to 20 minutes before I lost it.
