Podrobnosti k pozorování
Diagnostic pics attached. Previously reported, earlier this morning. Birds spread out on two adjacent islands fairly easily scoped from RW. Range roughly 290 to 370 yards depending on vantage point (per google maps). Sun over R shoulder. I counted 1x1 16 times each time in a one direction sweeping motion (either one way or the other): 56, 53, 52, 52, 52, 54, 56, 56, 56, 56, 58, 54, 53, 53, 51, 55. Birds moving L and R and up and down behind rocks. I changed positions 5 times for different vantage points, which definitely made a positive difference, then could also see just tops of striped heads behind rocks, or bodies of resting birds with bills tucked looking like adjacent big rocks, or multiple birds on a radial from me but in profile with bills in parallel. I considered that there might be another species mixed in with the two large groups of Whimbrel but couldn't see anything which looked different while at Riverlands and looked through my pics at home and couldn't detect anything different there either. I see some size differences between individuals in my pics but, per a quick look at "Peterson," the largest individuals within the species can be up to 26% bigger than the smallest. Seen by m. obs.
