Podrobnosti k pozorování
*Rare. First Pottawattamie County record. Rare for western IA, but MEGA for NE (1 state record so far). Swan with orange and black bill with black knob that held its neck in a S-shape. Adult type bird seen in the Iowa portion of the lake (never in Nebraska, unfortunately). The swan acted very wary, always moving away when we were present. Its wings were not clipped and no bands were on its legs. Its hind toes were intact (particularly its right). All these signs seem to point to a bird of wild origin. Another fact pointing towards wild origin is the location. Carter Lake holds wintering flocks of Trumpeter Swan and occasionally Tundra Swans in the past several years. This would be a likely location for a wild Mute Swan to found. *Life bird.* **Update on 4/21/18 - Record accepted by NOURC as second Nebraska Record.
