Podrobnosti k pozorování
Continuing hybrid. Tentative ID. Same area as this morning, amazingly - the East side tree line along the playing field. Fidelic to feeding in the Sea Grapes. Review all checklists with this bird for additional documentation or specific anatomical shots. Factors for Palm are the overall facial pattern, subtle and occasional, but notable, tail bobbing and tail pattern, with especially noting the heavy black in the undertail coverts. Spread tail shots taken later show only the two outer retrices with any white is consistent with PAWA across ages and sex from what I could garner online. With YRWA, this is varied between age and sex, and could still be fitting, however, to further push PAWA, I believe that later shots showing the rump and upper tail showing diffusion of yellow-green into the tail is a mark for PAWA, which seems to show this characteristic. YRWA seems to have no further yellow/yellow-green past the rump patch into the tail. Both species have yellow on the rump. Factors for Magnolia are grayish wings, faint white wingbars, hint of black necklace and streaking, extensive yellow, washed out around the vent and undertail, extensive black in the tail compared to standard PAWA, and white supercilium. I believe the feeding behavior is also reminiscent of MAWA, being active and dynamic. I have witnessed this at a local park, with a continuing MAWA feeding at various heights and in a similarly active manner. I also feel the manner in which this bird holds itself is also reflective of MAWA, sometimes positioning horizontal with the tail somewhat tipped up, showing the long-tailed nature. I felt it looked very "Magnolia".
