Podrobnosti k pozorování
When I first saw the bird I thought it was a Bower’s Shrikethrush, but I could not match the colors to my Morcombe app drawings so marked it down as Gray Shrikethrush, somewhat unconvincingly. A reviewer said it was "a juvenile/immature Bower's Shrikethrush, evident by the contrast in rufous wings and grey back" and added "The bill in juvenile Bower's is noted as being "pale pink, greying progressively from tip" (Aus Bird Guide), so is not a reliable feature for confirming ID in young birds." Now back home with my five Australian field guides, I cannot match the wing colors in four of the guidebooks. However, I noticed that the Slater Field Guide does illustrate the contrasting colors for Bower’s. I have not found the progressive bill coloring described or illustrated in my books, although it is evident in my one photo showing the underside of the lower mandible.
