Poznámky
Immature White-winged Dove found by Tom Edell on 25 September 2015 along State Highway 1 south of Villa Creek, San Luis Obispo County, California.
Podrobnosti k pozorování
Just as we were about to leave Tom spotted this bird perched with collared-doves on utility wires across the highway and south of the entrance to 5306 State Highway 1. We then studied this bird briefly and took some photos before it disappeared, presumably as it dropped into the trees for the night. This bird was a little smaller than the collared-doves and it seemed to have a slightly shorter tail, but also the plump body, small head with a steep forehead, and relatively slim, short bill. Clearly appeared was that this bird was a sandy-brown color overall, but also with a slightly curved blaze of white just inside from the leading edge of the closed wing and a blackish band right along the edge. I noted that the face was plain, and that this bird lacked a blue orbital-ring, but also that it had a blackish dash on the cheeks, but I did not note much additional detail in the plumage and I never saw this bird in flight. Further apparent was that the bill was dark, that the eyes seemed to be dark, and that the legs and feet were a deep pink to reddish color.
