Poznámky
Australasian Grebe swimming preening Lake Monger. The Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae) is a small grebe, very similar to the Dabchick. It is found throughout Australia, and mostly prefers freshwater habitats, even small ones like farm dams. It is mainly carnivorous, diving for its prey and eating small fish, shrimps and aquatic insects. The nest is a floating mound of vegetation, and the striped chicks are cared for by both parents and are often carried on their parents’ backs when small. Australasian Grebes are mostly seen singly, or in pairs. This large irruption of Australasian Grebes of post-breeding birds occurred on Lake Monger in Perth in March 2018. This bird was one of many present at the time. Elevation: 13 m. Date added to IBC: March 19, 2018.
