Podrobnosti k pozorování
*MEGA* rarity -- found by Pat Lindsay and Shai Mitra; first documented sighting in NYS. Large sandpiper with a long, slightly upturned bill. Similar in size to GRYE but noticeably paler and grayer, with more intricately patterned upperparts and mostly white underparts. Legs pale and greenish. White stripe down the back really obvious in flight. Initial scope views were by the edge of the main parking lot as it fed in rain puddles on the golf course lawn. Then ~6:45pm, at least seven of us watched as the greenshank suddenly took off and flew east with a food item in its bill and a gull in hot pursuit. We all got back in our cars and drove down the East Marina Access Road, then continued to photograph the bird on the lawn from our car windows. Views were better from the road, using the car as a blind, but the light was waning. Others were still watching the bird feeding on the wet lawn when Ursula and I left.
