Sketch of Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl submitted to park biologist at Big Bend
Podrobnosti k pozorování
From notes written a few hours later, which I submitted to the park biologist: "Our attention was drawn to the owl because of the small birds mobbing it. Bernice Hertzel-Trexler, a member of our Borderland Tour group, spotted it. Time: mid-morning. We put the scope on it at near minimum focal distance, and I stood by the scope, telling the people to be sure they noticed the white streaking versus spotting on the crown and the colors of the barring on the tail. In all, 18 people saw it in the scope, including Rick Taylor (owner/leader of Borderland). Experience: I have seen many Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls in Mexico and Central and South America, and have shown them to many groups...." We were told that this was the third record for Big Bend National Park.
