Podrobnosti k pozorování
One adult Brown Pelican at Knudsen Cove Marina. The bird had been present for at least one or two days before I heard about it (see Gibson et al. 2008, Report of the Alaska Checklist Committee, Western Birds 39:192-193). The bird had been flying around the cove at Knudsen Cove and sitting on the Clover Pass Resort dock. I took photographs of the bird as it sat on the dock at Clover Pass. Many people told me they’d been watching the bird. Some at Clover Pass said there were two birds, but that one had been chased off by an eagle. One person said that the bird at the dock had been chased by an eagle whenever it was out in the water, and he thought that an eagle might’ve injured it. The bird was sitting like a lump and never moved, and it did not react to boats that passed within 10 yards. It apparently allowed people to approach within 5-10 feet before flying away. The waitress at Clover Pass said that they had tried to call ADF&G et al. but finally got ahold of the Deer Mt. Fish Hatchery. Someone from the rehab center had tried to catch it in the morning, but the bird wouldn’t let them get close. The bird was reported through at least 28 May 2003 – people at Clover Pass thought that eagles had killed it, but that was not verifed.
