Physical Description of Sound; How Distinguished: sweet, varied tempo with distinctive phrase: "chee-oo--sa-witchu!" with mews and other odd notes. What Behavior Accompanied Vocalization: Moving from perch to perch in top of jack pines. Response to Imitation, Playback, Decoy; Special Set-up, Notes, etc.: Quality of song suggests singing sweetly while gritting teeth together. There were two birds in the tree, possibly both Philadelphia Vireo. LNS: This recording was originally archived as Vireo philadelphicus. However, several skilled listeners, including the two field recordists, have recently listened to this recording and concluded that it is actually of Vireo solitarius. -Matt Medler, 7 February 2011.
