Life Bird no. 337, Jefferson Co. bird no. 162 : was reported yesterday by Peyton Cook after prev. found July 14 by Nick Mrvelj: thank you for sharing ; am surprised by how robin-like tone it sounds, like a robin version of Vireo : and incl I think robin elements to song: and not like CAVI tone, and so long as hear more than a bit of song, not like AMGO either : made tape of vocals , and tracked bird down : surprise also how large it is, looks like could be size of Downy Woodpecker? very white underneath (only some pale yellow) w poss streaks under chin unless just wet or feathers parted? : long sharp bill : shortish tail, tail is white when flares it; bird found within 5-min. of arrival, without any pishing and no tape played : in riparian creekside of parking lot, opposite end of lot from Museum ; I feel even more, just, Relief, more than joy, Relief to finally hear and see one, I tried quite a bit to find one in Columbia/Multnomah counties past weekend, failed: (did a lot of tape practice for that, and recorded several AMGO wondering if they could be REVI ... ); 10:08am stops singing ; after heard 1 song note back there, hear another singing 10:13a for 30-sec nearer to Museum , new tape made : except when it starts singing again, I follow this second bird down and follow it almost back to first tree , so, their song is so resonant! and also maybe somewhat ventriloquist ? I don’t know if 2 birds or 1 : if 1, it is active and moving around its circle of trees : this 2nd sings as preens, it quick preens between song blocks : really a short tail, and white underside of bird : ~ brownish (muddy-ish) above (in photos in sun shows greenish) ; white eyestripe above eye is bordered with dark on both edges, looks as white as BEWR eyestripe ; 11:02a, still has been periodically singing, either hopping around several south(/east?) lot trees, or more than one bird, I did see 2 movements when one was singing, but I’ve only for certain ever had one bird at a time ; as its singing calms down, it sounds more and more like, at times, little rings of robin or chickadee , sometimes somewhat Finch-like : if it was only vocalizing 1-2 of these , and no more, could easily overpass it as a robin or chickadee ; note: I completely forgot to look to see if its eye is red ! I mostly saw it in shades of leafy tree, high above me, so maybe I wouldn’t have been able to see the red anyway, without sun on it
