Observation details
Rare migrant in Maricopa County in higher elevation forests. This bird was heard singing 3 to 4 times before we saw it, barely in Maricopa County. Red faced Warblers used to breed at Slate Creek Divide, but haven't since the 2004 Willow Fire. There is appropriate habitat in some of the Maricopa County drainages for breeding, it's always good to keep an eye out for them if they return once again as a breeder. This bird may have been looking to set up a territory, or it may be a northbound migrant. Awesome to see, pic later.
