Media notes
This overview photo of the nests shows 12 nests and 11 adults present at the specific time the photo was taken on April 19. However, on April 19th, I reported that actually 18 adults were present at one time. At various times when monitoring the site, I have observed a pair of adults at each nest. Today, three nests have young that can be observed sticking out of the nest. I did not take a photo today. The tree at the right of the photo has 4 nests that can be observed from a different part of the property; in this photo it appears that only 2 nests are present. I have been monitoring this heron population for several years and watched the number of nests increase.
Observation details
As previously reported, there are 12 Great Blue Heron nests in trees to north of site. All nests are active and as previously reported, have a pair of adults associated with each nest. See report dated April 19, 2018. A photo from that observation is attached. 5 young: in eastern most nest, 1 young sticking up; in middle group of trees, eastern most tree has 2 young sticking up in nest; in western group of trees, west-most tree has 2 young sticking up.
