Media notes
The closest drummer was a male, but do not know about the other two. Occasional background calls of ravens and a plastic tarp flapping. Editing with Audacity: Normalized to -3; High Pass filter 100.
Observation details
Three sapsuckers were drumming from different directions for over 37 minutes and continued as I was leaving the area. In the first section the microphone was about 20 meters away, the next section about 10 meters, and the final 5:32 about 6 meters away. The closest bird seemed unconcerned by my presence, probably because he didn’t want to give up his excellent sounding board which was sticking out from the roof of an outhouse as pictured. Squeal calls occur in the second section, but everything else is drumming, and after the 3:25 mark only the closest bird drums slightly varied patterns until the end.
