Observation details
I noticed a huge group of large birds in the sky as soon as we pulled onto the airport road. I initially though they might be herons and egrets, but as we got close and I got binoculars on them, I recognized the shape of Northern Gannets! Large, slender birds with large pointed bills and somewhat narrow, pointed wings. Birds were of varying ages including a few beautiful adults. I'm assuming this large gathering was food related as there were gannets, pelicans, dolphins, and a cormorant and Common Loon all working this area feverishly. The group alternated between feeding and resting as they slowly worked their way out of sight, though there were a few gannets remaining when we left. I first counted the group by 10's, coming up with 150. A second bird-by-bird count ended with 143. This count could be off a few either way. I will post several photos when I get home.
