Observation details
Adult male associating with Common Goldeneyes off of the parking area at Cave Point county park. The bird had extensive black upperparts with white windows and a black spur extending down from the base of the neck. The head was greenish but I got a tinge of purple when the light hit it the right way. The white patch on the head was more tear-drop shaped, extending upward dorsally compared to common goldeneyes. The head was a bit more blocky-shaped with a steeper forehead than common goldeneyes. Bird was actively diving and feeding but was able to observe leisurely at about 80-100 meters for a half hour.
