Media notes
Calls and songs from one individual out in a field with several Eastern Meadowlarks. First two segments calls, then songs beginning at 0:47. Best songs around 1:15. Extremely windy conditions so lots of background noise, but the bird was very loud despite being quite far away.
Observation details
*****Mega, first county record found earlier by Joe Brin. First detected when we arrived by liquid "chuck" calls from out in field. Did not sing until an Eastern flew in and sang, then started singing intermittently. Eventually spotted out in field and decent looks obtained, although always stayed distant. Several Eastern in the same area, singing and calling and sometimes in the same field of view. Very distinctive and loud song, call notes also diagnostic. Plumage-wise very similar to Eastern; yellow malar visible in some views; appeared overall more finely streaked on back and sides, probably because of paler overall ground color.
