Observation details
Saw a single bird flying overhead with a clump of dry stalks in its bill. Tracked the bird to a tall spruce, where it landed and disappeared from view. When it exited, it was joined by another crow who had been calling in a nearby tree. Both birds flew off, calling. Obtained a short recording of at least one of the birds calling. I will continue to monitor this tree to see if I can locate the exact location of the nest and increase the breeding code. I'm not using NB because though the crow entered the tree with nesting material and left with none, I failed to see it actually constructing the nest, as I was bustling over from a street away to try to keep up with the birds. This is a remarkable nesting record for a species on the northern edge of its range and one that was quite rare in the city, county, and surrounding area until I began seeing them regularly after my first sighting on 28 Feb. Numbers have ranged from 2-5, including an instance of seeing 4 later this day. It's possible this is not the only nesting attempt.
