Media notes
This recording includes background calls of Coots, Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows and probably other species, too.
Observation details
I'll add more details as other birders respond. Heard calling early in the morning between 6:30 & 7:00 AM - a loud, rough, repetitive "chek" call from reeds at the extreme western end of the marsh that sounded rail-like but unlike other rails I've heard there. Ignore all the competing calls of Coots, Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows etc in the accompanying audio file. There were several periods of silence for a few minutes each before the calls resumed. This call is quite different from the call of the RIRA at BFM in 2016 and whose call was more rapid and usually with a "kicker" note at the end. Xeno-canto has some similar recordings; e.g. https://www.xeno-canto.org/228886
