Observation details
Small warbler with gray head, bold white complete eye ring, small bill, yellow throat and underparts, no wing bars......***Update 4/7/18*** After careful consideration, and better looks on my computer screen, I have decided to attach a photo, along with a few additional field observations, to the Nashville Warbler sighting I reported yesterday at Pinecraft. After initially observing him (presumed male NAWA) for a few seconds, about 3 feet off the ground feeding in a sapling, he took off into thick understory about 5 yards west. A fellow birder on the scene, sharp eyed John Groskopf, circled around the side of the vegetation the NAWA flew into and observed what he believed to be a Common Yellowthroat, (understandably due to the limited view of the olive green back it was presenting) preening in the understory, in the vicinity of where the NAWA flew. I asked John if he would please take a photo with my camera as I, and others, could not locate the bird he was seeing at the moment. After John took the photo, attached, I then located said bird and was able to observe it for a few more seconds before it took off. From my angle, looking with bins into the dappled light in the bushes, I was able to see a white eyering on a gray head, a bit of yellow on the throat, and a greenish wing being preened. The photo, which I cropped, is best viewed on a larger screen. The bird’s back, which is greenish, is to the camera and its gray head is turned back preening. Unfortunately most of the bill is obscured, but you can clearly see a prominent white eyering. Unfortunately the angle prevents a full clear shot of the eyering, etc., but everything showing on this photo suggests it could very well be the NAWA I initially observed on the sapling moments before. On the other hand, since I lost track of it in the understory, it could be a different bird than the one I initially saw in the sapling as there were several birds in the immediate vicinity. Interestingly, there were other confirmed observations, with photos, of NAWA in Florida yesterday.
