Observation details
Heard short "de?" calls at 1054 and saw 1 fly over the stream in the E part of reach 4, heading upstream at ca shrub height. I suspected it might have landed out of sight farther upstream, obscured behind shrubs. At 1113 I saw a KILL, probably the same individual, standing on the snow at the edge of a flooded bend of the creek ca 80-100 m upstream of the CANG in reach 4. It made very brief "de" calls when it saw me and I saw it, bobbing its body a bit. In a year of surveys, today marks the FIRST visual detections I have made of Killdeer along the creek. At 1237, I heard long "dee?" calls and saw one individual flying overhead near the diversion, approaching from the S and then heading back E. At 1550 I heard calls and saw 2 land in the grasses ca 20 m N of the stream in reach 4, in the vicinity of where I saw 1 earlier along the stream.
