Observation details
Surprised just how short the bills’ were of all the Long-billed Curlew we were seeing, Expected them to look proportionally longer than Far Eastern Curlew but they appeared similar to arquata Eurasian Curlew. Subsequent research at home revealed that these birds actually belonged to the shorter billed subspecies occidentalis e.g. http://www.jstor.org/stable/4072849, totally unaware of this race which is poorly documented.
