Observation details
Received a call from Chuck Chalfant that he was currently watching an adult female Anhinga. I was able to get there in about 10 minutes and saw the bird perched in a willow tree on a branch overhanging the pond. It was about 50 yards away. The buffy brown throat and upper breast against the black head was very evident. The bird soon took flight and made several tight circles over the pond gaining altitude with each circle. In flight, the long pointed head and bill were clearly seen along with the fan-shaped tail and broad wings. The bird circled for about 5-6 minutes and then when nearly a speck through binoculars left in a northeast direction. First Anhinga photographed in Pennsylvania.
