Media notes
A playback was used only after we first heard the bird. It repeatedly called back and moved around the marsh but stayed hidden. This recording is not great as there are Red-winged Blackbirds calling as well as a Black-billed Magpie. The Rail calling is in the 3 kHz range.
Observation details
Heard “kiddick” call repeated many times. The bird flew a short distance. Had a good look at the bird in flight. It was dark with a long slightly down curved bill. This marshy pond is where the rail has been seen and photographed in previous years.
