Observation details
Not much of a black mask - SY bird. Seen ca 1027, perched 2/3 of the way up in a willow on a horizontal branch, ca 50 m above the diversion. I was alerted to its presence by brief, hi-pitched predator calls from 2 nearby BCCH; 1 flew to perch within a few meters of the shrike in the same willow and the other followed. Observed the shrike seem to touch or manipulate its feet or something between them with its beak a time or two. At 1028 it flew directly and rapidly E or NE, more or less downstream but north of the riparian corridor, disappearing from view. Checked the vicinity of its perch and saw no recent fur or feathers underneath. Not seen again.
