Observation details
1 male observed ca 0850-0900 along the W sewage lagoon fence, making occasional single "pew" calls and flying down frequently to pick briefly at grasses, then flying back up to a different spot on the fence. In a ca 200 m stretch N of the start point, staying at least 20 m away from me and flying if I approached a bit closer. At 0900 it called again, then flew SE, along with 2 other bluebirds I had not seen before. At least some of them landed near a Russian-olive in the S part of the sewage lagoon area. Later, I saw at least 2 males perched on the fence N of reach 3. At 1211, near the raised hill, 1 male flew upstream into the intense headwind, calling. Ca 1218, saw an apparent pair near the cross-fence. The female perched in a small Russian-olive along the creek. The male perched on the fence, ground-sallied once, then perched on an alder branch less than 5 m from the female. Lost sight of them in the next few minutes. At 1315, saw a single male in the field S of the stream in reach 3, perching on low vegetation and apparently dropping down to the ground to forage. On the return I saw one male perching on fruit tree cages near the house NE of reach 4. At the end of the survey, I saw at least 3 males ground-sallying from the W sewage pond fence and the barbed wire fence near the start point.
