Observation details
Single individual, at times closely associating with a Red-breasted Merganser. Observed the Grebe for roughly 15 minutes. There was later a report of 2 RNGRs at this location but certainly only 1 bird during my viewing period. The bird dove and stayed submerged for quite some time and covered distance underwater, sometimes appearing at different ends of the pond on a single dive. Also of note, was the occasional high pitched, "tick" alarm call note. Cool to hear and something I don't recall ever observing in the past. Double checked my 75 images to search for the possibility that I photographed two birds (based on report from later in the day) but all of my photos are distinctly the same individual. Photo attached.
