Observation details
Part of apparent local Sage Thrasher movement. Over past few days I have noted 20 individual Sage Thrashers at 5 locations (Ballinger Canyon and Santa Barbara Canyon (both SB county) and Klipstein Canyon, Elkhorn Grade and Soda Lake Roads (all 3 locations in Kern Co). Respectively 2, 4, 4, 7 and 3 birds. P. E. Lehman in "Birds of Santa Barbara County (2016 revision) states: "Sage Thrashers may prove to be rare-but-regular visitors during the fall, early winter, and, especially, late winter and early spring to the semidesert scrub and agricultural areas in District V." My observations support there being a spring migration of Sage Thrashers through this area. All five locations showed similar habitat - heavily cropped pasture with remnant sage.
